Gotu Kola is an India and Asia native herb with a centuries-old reputation as a memory herb that helps maintain strong mental vigor and extend longevity. It can be taken as a herbal tonic to stimulate the nervous system, improve learning and memory abilities, uplift the mood and alleviate fatigue. In particular, in combination with ginger and cayenne, this herb makes a great energy booster!

Besides being known as a great tonic, over time Gotu Kola also became a very popular and recognized remedy for skin conditions.

Evidence shows that taking this herb internally, in combination with foods high in vitamin C, stimulates collagen synthesis, a key element in skin repair. Furthermore, the active constituent (asiatic acid) stimulates the regrowth of the tissue that underlies the skin. This makes Gotu Kola ideal in the treatment of burns, eczema, wounds, ulcers, and other skin conditions. Externally, a fomentation (made by soaking a cloth or a cotton ball in the infusion) can be applied topically to the affected areas.

Several studies showed that this herb is also useful in treating circulatory problems especially in the lower part of the body, making it a great remedy for varicose veins, and leg or foot swelling.

If you want to avail of Gotu Kola’s properties, you can make an infusion (tea) by steeping half a teaspoon of the dried herb in a cup of boiling water for 15 minutes and drink up to two cups per day.
